SPARTANBURG COUNTY, S.C. (WSPA) – A Spartanburg County man has been charged with attempted murder after investigators said he shot his brother.

According to the Spartanburg County Sheriff’s Office, at around 9:30 p.m. Friday, deputies were called to Gibbs Road in Wellford in reference to a shooting. On scene, deputies found a man who had been shot twice, as well as a witness and 18-year-old Matthias Anthony Edens.

The injured victim was taken to the hospital to be treated for his injuries and is expected to make a full recovery.

During an interview deputies learned Edens and the victim of the shooting were related, and had gotten into an argument, which escalated into the shooting.

The sheriff’s office said Edens argued the shooting was in self defense, but interviews and evidence at the scene did not support the claim.

Edens was arrested and has been charged with attempted murder and possession of a weapon during commission of a violent crime. He is being held in the Spartanburg County Detention Center.
