    Man shot in Asheville dies from injuries

    ASHEVILLE, N.C. (WSPA) – A man who was shot in the head last week in Asheville has died from his injuries.

    The shooting happened early Thursday morning on Laurel Loop, according to Asheville Police.

    Officers responded to find a man with a gunshot wound to the head. He was taken to Mission Hospital where he has since died from his injuries.

    Asheville Police identified the victim as 26-year-old Jaquan Bowen.

    Police arrested 40-year-old Jessica Barnes Ferland at the scene and charged her with attempted first degree murder. Her charges have since been upgraded to first degree murder.

    Investigators did not say how the two knew each other.

    Ferland is being held in the Buncombe County Detention Facility without bond.

    The case remains under investigation and Asheville Police said anyone with information on the case is asked to call them at 828-252-1110.
