(WSPA) – The South Carolina High School League Executive Committee voted Tuesday morning to extend the high school football season by one week and to keep a five-round playoff intact.

The state championship weekend will now take place one week later on December 13-14 at Oliver C. Dawson Bulldog Stadium at South Carolina State University.

The move was made due to the impact on the schedule, primarily in the Upstate CSRA, of the recent storm.

The SCHSL estimates nearly 70 games were not played due to the storm’s effects. The vote was decided by a 2/3 majority.
