SPARTANBURG COUNTY, S.C. (WSPA) — Classes will not be in session for students in Spartanburg School District Four on Wednesday.

According to the district, a substance likened to mold or mildew was found on multiple desks in a room at Woodruff High School. The room was subsequently closed off to students and faculty.

Inspections revealed the substance in “additional areas,” but the district did not specify what the areas are.

“Although we only have evidence of this substance at Woodruff High School, all schools will have an air quality test performed by a third party as an additional precaution with results expected later in the week,” a district representative said.

The discovery lead district leaders to make the decision to close schools out of caution.

No eLearning is planned for Wednesday.
