SPARTANBURG COUNTY, S.C. (WSPA) — Students in Spartanburg District 4 will not need to report to class Friday.

Schools were closed on Wednesday and Thursday , after a substance likened to mold or mildew was found on multiple desks in a room at Woodruff High School.

Inspections revealed the substance in “additional areas.”

According to the district, a third-party agent took samples to test air quality in each District 4 school, and a specialized cleaning company came to clean each school starting on Thursday.

    No eLearning is expected.

The district said an update will be available Sunday afternoon.

“Thank you again for your understanding and flexibility to ensure safety remains the number one priority of our students and staff,” the district said.
