GREENWOOD COUNTY, S.C. (WSPA) – A minor earthquake was registered Sunday morning in Greenwood County, according to the U.S. Geological Survey.

USGS, and the South Carolina Emergency Management Division said at around 9:06 a.m. Sunday a 2.12 magnitude earth was detected by roughly 3 kilometers northwest of Coronaca.

The seismic activity was detected at a depth of around 7.2 kilometers.

According to USGS, an earthquake of that strength is not enough to cause any kind of damage to the area, though anyone in the area of the earthquake may have experienced some weak shaking of the ground at the time of the incident.

The Sunday morning earthquake isn’t the first detected in the Coronaca area this week. At around 11 p.m. Friday, USGS detected a 2.16 magnitude earthquake in roughly the same area.

In late September, a 2.71 magnitude earthquake was detected east of Lancaster, near the North Carolina-South Carolina border.
