MADISON COUNTY, N.C. (WSPA) – A woman from Mars Hill tried her luck on a $3 Powerball ticket, winning $100,000.

Tammy Pope bought her ticket using Online Play and matched the numbers on four white balls and the red Powerball in the October 5 drawing to win $50,000, according to North Carolina Lottery officials.

Since Pope purchased a Power Play ticket, her prize doubled to $100,000. After required federal and state tax withholdings, Pope took home $71,501.

Monday’s Powerball jackpot stands at $388 million annuity or $186.7 million in cash. The odds of winning a Powerball jackpot are 1 in 292 million, according to lottery officials.
