LAURENS COUNTY, S.C. (WSPA) – State law enforcement officials released new details Monday on a deputy-involved shooting that left a man dead on October 10 in Laurens County.

The South Carolina Law Enforcement Division said that the Laurens County Sheriff’s Office was notified of a possible wanted person in the area of Gray Court following a reported kidnapping and chase in Spartanburg County.

According to SLED, deputies in Laurens County received a call for a welfare check regarding an abandoned vehicle with children inside.

Deputies found the vehicle with two children in the area of Lakeview Drive and Highway 101 around 10 a.m.

SLED investigators said deputies encountered an armed man, identified 37-year-old Antonio Lavar Sullivan.

Sullivan was then shot by deputies, SLED said. Sullivan died from his injuries at the scene.

No deputies were injured in the shooting.

The children in the car was not hurt and were reunited with their mother, according to investigators.

    No other details were released.

The shooting is being investigated by the South Carolina Law Enforcement Division.

SLED said this was the third shooting involving the Laurens County Sheriff’s Office in 2024.
