PIEDMONT, S.C. (WSPA) – This week’s high school standouts features a dynamic duo on the field for the Wren Hurricanes.

Quarterback Colten Bagwell and running back Reese Price have combined for over 1,800 total yards and 27 touchdowns so far this season, but the chemistry started long before the combo’s senior seasons.

“I’ve known Colt ever since I moved here in third grade,” said Price. “It all started at Hurricane Park with the youth league, we all just grew up together and playing together and it really shows on the football field when we go to war with all your brothers. It definitely helps having the chemistry for sure.”

With eight touchdowns through the air and seven on the ground, Bagwell’s abilities as a dual threat quarterback has led Wren to the 4-1 start as region play begins across the league. His 89.8 rushing yards per game is second on the team, just below Price’s 137.6 per game, while he’s completed 70% of his passes, according to MaxPreps.

“It was bond personified last year when we played Powdersville,” said Hurricanes Head Coach Anthony Frate. “I think it was a 42-39 win. Each one of them ran for 200 yards in that game, I think each one of them had more than three touchdowns and it was just one of those days where they both carried the ball 20 to 30 times and it was like ‘I got this one, you got this one.’ You could see the were playing for each other.”

In the backfield, Price is the epitome of a “do-it-all” athlete for the Hurricanes as a player who has rushed for nine touchdowns, received two and passed for one for a combined 12 touchdowns this season.

“He’s got one of the better arms on the team, he’s left-handed too, which that kind of helps because usually when you have trick plays they go to the right,” said Frate. “They’re both really intelligent kids and that helps a lot because you’re able to really put in a game plan that can be pretty dynamic for them.”

Wren continues region play at 1-0 with a home game against Laurens Friday night at 7:30 p.m.
