MCDOWELL COUNTY, N.C. (WSPA) – A Kentucky man is accused of showing up to two McDowell County schools with a fake name in an attempt to get information.

According to the McDowell County Sheriff’s Office, Hunter Dakota Kelley gave a fake name to school personnel while showing Department of Defense identification when he showed up to the schools Wednesday.

Deputies said Kelley requested information which did not seem appropriate to staff.

When staff said they would let him speak to the School Resource Officers, Kelley left the schools, according to the sheriff’s office.

School officials took pictures of Kelley and his vehicle and turned them over to the McDowell County Sheriff’s Office.

Deputies and North Carolina State Highway Patrol located Kelley a short time later and found a machete-style weapon in his vehicle.

Kelley was arrested and charged with two counts of attempting to obtain property by false pretense, two counts of possession of weapon on educational property, and possession of open container of alcohol.

Kelley was booked into the McDowell County jail on $75,000 bond.
