CLEMSON, S.C. (WSPA) – Farmers and ranchers are still assessing the damage from Hurricane Helene.

While crops like corn had mostly been harvested, other crops like peanuts and cotton had already been stressed from earlier rains from Tropical Storm Debby and a drought before that.

Clemson University developed a website where farmers and ranchers can report damage from the storm and attach pictures and videos to show what happened.

The data collected helps scientists to estimate the overall extent of damage and helps prove the need for assistance from state and federal governments.

Because of the rain and wind combination with the storm, it wasn’t just flooding, but also wind damage to crops and infrastructure.

Clemson’s AgriWellness Program enables those in the agricultural community to speak to a mental health professional to help them talk through the hard times.

That number is 1(800) 968-8143.  Mention that you are calling as part of the SC AgriWellness Program.
