    Man drowns in Lake Jocassee

    OCONEE COUNTY, S.C. (WSPA) – On Saturday, emergency services were dispatched to a near drowning at Devils Fork State Park at Lake Jocassee.

    The victim, identified as 30-year-old Gustavo Ivan Hernandez-Cardenas, was pulled from the lake by bystanders and CPR was started, according to the coroner’s office.

    Resuscitation efforts were continued and Hernandez-Cardenas was transported to the emergency department at Prisma Greenville Memorial Hospital. He died Saturday evening at the hospital.

    Hernandez-Cardenas was from the San Luis Potosi region of Mexico. According to the coroner’s office, he was reportedly in the Upstate training at BMW’s plant in Spartanburg County. He and his friends were at Lake Jocassee for an outing on Saturday.

    The cause of death was freshwater drowning and was ruled accidental.
