SPARTANBURG COUNTY, S.C. (WSPA) – Someone broke into a storage unit and stole musical instruments belonging to a Spartanburg County Charter School, according to reports.

According to reports from the Spartanburg County Sheriff’s Office, on Sunday, a deputy was called to Mountain View Preparatory, a recently opened charter school on Springfield Road after a school employee discovered someone had broken into one of the Conex containers behind the school.

According to the report, whoever broke into the container stole two beginner style guitars and a bass drum. Another drum was taken from the container, but was located on the school football field.

“It’s unfortunate that someone would come on campus and take things that don’t belong to them,” said Matt Talley, principal at Mountain View Preparatory.

Talley said the units are used for storage for the school but managed by another organization and are supposed to be locked. The sheriff’s department report said the container the instruments were stolen from was unlocked at the time.

Talley said school officials are still trying to determine if anything else was taken and the value of everything taken from the Conex before they begin trying to replace the missing items.
