SYRACUSE, N.Y. (WSYR-TV) — On Friday, August 2, at 2:41 p.m., Syracuse firefighters were alerted by a 911 call of an apartment fire at 405 Pond Street in the City’s North Side.

When firefighters arrived on scene, they found a three-story apartment building with large amounts of smoke and fire coming from the back of the building.

As firefighters began to put out the fire and searched the building for anyone inside, they were met with thick black smoke, SFD said.

The firefighters found that everyone was able to make it out of the building before they arrived.

Once the main part of the fire was put out, crews began to open holes in walls and ceilings, checking for hidden fire spread.

The fire was brought under control after 10 minutes, and following an extensive overhaul operation, the fire was declared out after 80 minutes, according to SFD.

A second-floor apartment now has severe fire, smoke and water damage. The rest of the building also suffered smoke and water damage.

No civilians or fire department personnel were injured. At least two people were displaced by this fire, said SFD.

The cause of the fire is currently unknown. The investigation is ongoing.
