GEDDES, N.Y. (WSYR-TV) — It’s unfortunate that not every day can feature blue skies and the shining sun during the New York State Fair. But for those rainy days, the wet weather shouldn’t wash away your plans of coming down to the Fairgrounds.

“We have hundreds of vendors outside. We also have hundreds of vendors inside,” said State Fair Director Julie LaFave. “We have the animals inside, flower show inside, we have so much to do.”

The Expo Center is one of the busiest hotspots during the Fair. It’s home to the dinosaur exhibit, a fan favorite activity that takes you back to pre-historic times and lets you take a stroll among all those creatures. There are 60 life-like dinosaurs as tall as 80 feet. The exhibit also has a fossil dig, so you just might uncover actual dinosaur remains.

If you’re an animal lover, then you’re going to want to check out the Horticulture Building. For the first time ever, the State Fair has baby goat snuggling. You can’t let a few raindrops let you miss out on cuddling some of these goats.

The goats were resting up Monday afternoon, August 19, for all the attention they’ll get over the next two weeks.

You can tap into another sweet adventure at New York Pure Maple, learning there’s more to the flavor than syrup.

You can’t have a fair day without some grub. Horan’s on Restaurant Row will be grilling and frying every day. They’ll have umbrellas at their tables, so those Irish egg rolls won’t get soggy.

“When it is rainy and cloudy, it lets us really get to know our customers more,” said Horan’s co-owner Amy Horan. “They become family, and we hope to see them next year or the next day it’s not raining.”

LaFave says the Fair has a partnership with the National Weather Service who will let staff know each morning if severe weather will impact the area and if precautions need to be taken.
