NORTH SYRACUSE, N.Y. (WSYR-TV) — Hurricanes Helene and Milton have not just affected people but pets as well.

Shelters in the south are looking to move pets as they expect an influx of animals displaced by the hurricanes.

Helping Hounds Dog Rescue in North Syracuse is lending a hand and is asking for the public’s help with adopting to open up space for the displaced dogs.

To encourage new unions, adoption fees are being reduced until Monday, Oct. 14, by $75, which means it’s $275 for a dog and $475 for a puppy.

Depending on how many dogs are adopted this weekend, 25 dogs from shelters in Florida could arrive on Monday.

Dogs displaced by the storm will be kept safe at Helping Hounds as their families search for them.

“Hopefully, a lot of them will be reunited,” said Kathy Gilmour, the executive director of Helping Hounds.

Helping Hounds has also started a new foster program in partnership with the Syracuse City Shelter and B&R Bunkhouse to foster stray dogs in Syracuse where they can stay at a foster home for three weeks.

Should keep the price lower all the time, help others adopt easier. Price is the barrier
