ROME, NY (WUTR/WFXV/WPNY) — It may only be October, but the Rome Rescue Mission is already planning to give some Thanksgiving cheer to people in need.

The Rescue Mission announced on Tuesday, October 15 that they are asking for the public’s help to give away 1,500 turkeys — plus all the sides — for the holiday. However, to do that, they are asking for donations.

The Rome Rescue Mission intends to serve over 3,000 meals this Thanksgiving. They also intend to provide turkeys to those in need the Monday before Thanksgiving. That giveaway is scheduled for Monday, November 25, starting at 11 am at 280 East Dominick Street.

The Rescue Mission is asking for the public to provide the following food items:

    • 1,500 Turkeys,
    • Stuffing,
    • jarred gravy,
    • white and sweet potatoes,
    • dinner rolls,
    • canned vegetables,
    • Coffee and Creamer,
    • Hot cocoa,
    • Milk,
    • fruit,
    • Salad ingredients,
    • Mayonnaise,
    • Pies and desserts, and
    • Gallon-size zip-lock bags.

Monetary donations to buy the needed supplies will also be accepted. Donations may be dropped off to the Rome Rescue Mission at 413 East Dominick Street Monday through Friday between 9 am and 6 pm, and Saturday and Sunday between 9 am and 2 pm. You may also mail a check to:

    PO Box 337
    Rome, NY 13440

You may also donate online to the link here.

If you are in need of Thanksgiving dinner, the Rome Mission is planning to deliver Thanksgiving meals on Wednesday, November 27 at the following locations and times:

    • The Colonial Apartments on Cottage Street, Building number 1 from 11 am to 11:20 am and Building number 2 from 11:30 am to 11:45 am.
    • Madison Plaza Apartments on Madison Street from 11:50 am to 12:10 pm.
    • Valentine Apartments on Turin Street from 12:40 pm to 12:55 pm.
    • The Rome Mall Apartments on Liberty Plaza from 1:15 pm to 1:30 pm.
    • The Clinton-DeWitt Apartments on Ann Street from 1:45 pm to 2 pm.

The Rescue Mission will also be serving its annual Thanksgiving Dinner on Thursday, November 28 at noon. The mission will open at 9 am on that day and will close at 3 pm. Take-outs will be available that day.

“Our services are critical to the struggling families we serve. We provide a warm, traditional meal to our neighbors in need every year,” Lisa Patierno, Interim Executive Director of the Rome Rescue Mission, said in a statement. “Our goal is for no one to go hungry on Thanksgiving.”
