CORTLAND COUNTY, N.Y. (WSYR-TV) — The Cortland County SPCA intends to stay open after initially announcing plans to close, the organization announced on Thursday, Oct. 17.

After intending to close by March 31, 2025, the reversal comes following what the board calls an outpouring of support from the community.

The organization is also looking for new people to join the board to help raise funds to keep the doors open.

The board president told NewsChannel 9 that they will work with the New York State Animal Protection Federation on stabilizing the organization.

The Cortland county SPCA has undergone a number of crises over the last several years including the termination of staff members and volunteers which leads one to wonder if board leadership might not be part of the overall problem, perhaps this might be the appropriate time to consider a complete reorganization of the board and it's leadership.
