DUBOIS, Pa. (WTAJ) — The DuBois City Council is working to revise and fix their 2024 budget after more than nine hundred and twenty thousand dollars was left unaccounted for in it.

The council says the wrong numbers had been put in for the principal and interest payments on some of the city’s loans. The council added that they are in the process of fixing the budget and will vote on those changes at next month’s meeting.

New City Manager Shawn Arbaugh says they don’t believe it will cause any major changes other than the city postponing buying a vehicle and moving around some other expenditures. Arbaugh says the mistake is due to the council’s new system of keeping track of money.

“Typically they had everything combined into one budget. So for this year, the new council asked that they separate into three different funds. There is a general fund, a sewer fund and a water fund. Previously there was just a general fund so it was a little bit, that’s why it wasn’t as easy to catch the error as you might have in previous years,” Arbaugh added.

Arbaugh says that the council is committed to fixing the error and restoring the public’s trust in the city’s financial handlings.
