NEWRY, Pa. (WTAJ) — Some local shelter dogs got to enjoy a Saturday afternoon outside while meeting new friends — and maybe even a future family — at Bark in the Park in Newry, Blair County.

The Newry lions club sponsored the event to benefit the Central PA Humane Society and Mending Hearts.

“It really works so well because it’s a community problem — the overpopulation of the pets” said Kristina Davera of the Central PA Humane Society. “And it’s so nice when we can all cooperate and work together because we’re all in the same business of saving animals.”

Daversa said Bark in the Park was good for the dogs because it gave them a break from the shelter environment, which can be stressful.
