CAMBRIA COUNTY, Pa. (WTAJ) — Brownstown Borough will be installing new natural gas and water lines as a result of a state grant.

The borough was awarded $200,000 for the project, which helped it avoid costly road tear-ups and repaving. Rick Rambish, Brownstown Borough council president, said that the borough wanted to avoid a situation where the gas company paved the roads after installation, so they reached out to Frank Burns (D-Cambria).

Burns was able to work with the water and gas company, saying, “Working together stretches everyone’s dollar further.” Rambish added that in addition to the utilities sharing the cost, a state grant was sought to help facilitate the project.

The project will be done in three phases, starting with 1.5 miles this year. There are approximately 300 water authority customers in the borough.Burns said he makes a priority of making sure small communities like Brownstown get their fair share of state help.
