Bedford County woman arrested after fire set in home of fiancé

OSTERBURG, Pa. (WTAJ) — Multiple smoldering fires in a man’s Bedford County home led to the arrest of his fiancé, state police report.

Vicky C. Ritchey-Stanley, 62, was charged with arson and aggravated arson after allegedly setting multiple fires in her fiance’s home on Monday, Aug. 5.

State police were called to the home just off Black Bear Lane around 12:28 p.m. According to charges filed, troopers saw multiple smoldering fires in the home, including on the bed and in a wicker laundry basket.

According to the fiancé, he was out shopping with Ritchey-Stanley to quickly grab a few things. He told police that when he went back out to the parking lot, she was gone and he had to call a family member for a ride.

The finance told troopers that he got home and there was cooking oil all over the floor and while cleaning it up, he smelled smoke and noticed a fire in his hallway, the criminal complaint reads. He proceeded to put them out. Fire crews assisted with removing burnt furniture to avoid any fire restarting.

Troopers said they spotted Ritchey-Stanley on 1-99 and pulled her over. She was arrested and asked for an attorney, ending the interview police tried to conduct.

Ritchey-Stanley was placed in Bedford County Prison with bail set at $300,000.
