    Bedford County prepares for remnants of Tropical Storm Debby

    BEDFORD COUNTY, Pa. (WTAJ) — Several counties are preparing for the remnants of Tropical Storm Debby to hit the area.

    In Bedford County, four to six inches of rainfall is expected to fall into the area. The Bedford Emergency Management Agency informed the townships to prepare for potential flash flooding.

    The county has 16 low points where water can collect and cause roads to have large pools of water. The list includes areas that are common flood zones in Bedford County:

    BEDFORD TOWNSHIP

    • Chalybeate Rd. to Rabbit Ln.
    • Intersection of Rabbit Ln./Younts Rd. and Dively Rd.
    • Chalybeate Rd. near Dunning Ln. and Belden Rd.

    HARRISON TOWNSHIP

    • Diehl Rd. between Union Rd. and Hyndman Rd.

    HOPEWELL TOWNSHIP

    • Mt. Rose Beach Rd. near E. Cypher Rd.
    • Brallier Station Rd.
    • Big Bend Beach Rd. area

    JUNIATA TOWNSHIP

    • Diehl Rd. near Allegheny Rd.

    LONDONDERRY TOWNSHIP

    • Diehl Rd. between Union Rd. and Hyndman Rd.

    NAPIER TOWNSHIP

    • Tulls Hill Rd. at Herline Covered Bridge
    • Miller Rd. between Hoover Rd. and Ash Tree Rd.

    SNAKE SPRING TOWNSHIP

    • Lutzville Rd. near Mill Ridge Rd.

    E. ST. CLAIR TOWNSHIP

    • Fish Hatchery Rd. at Wayne Blvd.
    • Adams Run Rd. from Reynoldsdale Rd. to 2nd St.
    • Bob’s Creek Rd. at White Pine Rd.

    W ST. CLAIR TOWNSHIP

    • Crissman Rd. near Cortland Rd.
    • Cider Press Rd. between Cortland Rd. and Dunnings Creek Rd.

    Residents of Bedford County need to be prepared for the flash flooding. First responders and a swiftwater rescue team have been told to be on standby should they be needed.

    More maintenance crews are also on alert if trees are happen to fall on the roads. The county looks to keep their residents safe, even if leaving is the best option available.

    “You need to be ready to evacuate in case it does get to that point,” Alex Delia, Director of Emergency Services, said. “It’s never a clear cut answer, but I would always evacuate, even if you feel at risk.”

    Delia also mentions that if you see water on the roads to not drive through. Cars can float and stall in four to six inches of water on the roads.

    If you find flooding in your area, make sure to call 9-1-1 to report it to your local authorities.
