BLAIR COUNTY, Pa. (WTAJ) — One local community wrapped up the summer months with a tradition that has been going on for 48 years.

The Claysburg Community Days brought together the town one last time before football season and the school year started. Residents enjoyed food and beverage, along with some carnival games.

Those stands benefited local non-profit organizations like the Claysburg High School Marching Band and the Claysburg Area Community Theater. Other organizations like the Claysburg Future Business Leaders of America used the event to get service hours and help out the community.

This provided these organizations an opportunity to fundraise. “They can expose themselves to the community, and people might say ‘Well that looks like fun with the theater group. Maybe I would think about joining them’,” said Nancy Musselman, one of the co-chairs of Community Days.

The event brought many tournaments for folks to show off their athletic skills. Saturday brought a softball tournament, while Sunday brings a 3-on-3 basketball tournament and a cornhole tournament as well.

The main event of the weekend involved the 30th edition of the Little Miss Claysburg Pageant. Lawn chairs lined up around the gazebo to watch the contestants show off their skills to win the pageant.

Overall, it provides a town one last chance to get together before summer’s end. “This is really the last time to gather people together,” Musselman said. “There are even some graduating classes that use this weekend as a reunion.”
