BEDFORD, Pa. (WTAJ) — A man and woman were arrested after the woman, known to have an arrest warrant, was spotted at a Rutter’s by state troopers, court documents show.

Megan Ann Kleinertz and Cody Allen Kurtz, both 34 and from Everett, are facing drug charges after state troopers said they spotted Kleinertz’s vehicle at Rutter’s in Bedford on July 17 around 12:17 p.m. They noted she was wanted for failing to appear in court.

Court dockets show she missed her preliminary hearing for retail theft charges after initially being released when her 10 percent of $25,000 bail ($2,500) was posted.

According to the criminal complaint, one of the troopers on duty had previously dealt with Kleinertz in that vehicle. When both troopers went inside the store, they found Kleinertz shopping and searched her before arrest. It was noted in the complaint that troopers found seven baggies with white powder in them and a yellow unmarked pill in her handbag. She alleged that the drugs belonged to her boyfriend, Kurtz.

When placing her in handcuffs in the store, troopers said she began to yell for Kurtz. Police were later told that Kurtz was seen running from the store and darted across Lincoln Highway, charges show. Kleinertz’s vehicle was towed and a search warrant was received.

Inside her vehicle, police said they found digital scales, syringes, miscellaneous drug paraphernalia, and drug-free urine in a plastic bottle. Kleinertz claimed the urine was bought by Kurtz for a urine test as he was on probation.

Kleinertz was placed in Bedford County Prison on her warrant and has yet to be arraigned in this incident. Kurtz, however, was arraigned and placed in Bedford County Prison with bail set at $100,000.
