Tractor-trailer rollover in Somerset County near Maryland border left driver trapped

SOMERSET COUNTY, Pa. (WTAJ) — A tractor-trailer rolled over in Somerset County near the Maryland border, leaving the driver trapped — and cabbage left to clean up.

The crash happened on Route 160 (Cumberland Highway) in Southampton Township just after 4:30 a.m. Wednesday, Aug. 14.

According to state police, the driver, a 20-year-old male from Detroit, was traveling south when he left the roadway and drove into an embankment followed by hitting a utility pole and several trees. The tractor-trailer then rolled over, leaving the man trapped.

Wellersburg Fire Department, Meyersdale Fire Department and numerous Maryland units all responded to the scene and were able to free the driver. He was taken to UPMC Cumberland with suspected serious injuries.

One member of the Wellersburg Fire Department told WTAJ the trailer was full of cabbage.
