PENNSYLVANIA (WTAJ) — Flu shot season is upon us as the weather begins to change, and a pharmacy near you is offering appointments.

Influenza vaccines, also known as the flu shot, are vaccines that protect against infection from viruses. Most shots are given with a needle, typically in the arm, but there is also a nasal spray flu vaccine.

Everyone 6-months and older in the United States, with some exceptions, should get a flu vaccine every season. The CDC has made this recommendation since the 2010-2011 season. Flu shots for the 2024-2025 flu and cold season are all trivalent and protect against three strains of influenza: H1N1, H3N2, and a B/Victoria lineage virus.

Where to find a flu vaccine near you

Many regional pharmacies are offering flu shots as of Aug. 15. Below is a list of pharmacies offering appointments for a shot.

Each pharmacy allows patients to schedule an appointment as well as verify their insurance online. Most insurance plans cover flu shots at $0 copays, including Medicare Part B.
