Altoona dinner to benefit scholarship named for gun violence victim

ALTOONA, Pa. (WTAJ) — An upcoming dinner in Altoona will benefit Thee Devon Pfirsching Scholarship, which is named for a 15-year-old boy who was killed in an act of gun violence in 2020.

Devon Pfirsching was in the 10th grade when he lost his life on Feb. 25, 2020. The event, Devon’s Dinner, will take place on Saturday, Aug. 17 and all proceeds will go to the scholarship fund. From 3 to 6 p.m., attendees will be able to enjoy a spaghetti dinner at the Moose Club in Altoona.

Tickets to the meal are $12 and include spaghetti, two meatballs, a salad, a roll and dessert. During the event, there will also be a basket raffle, entertainment and a 50/50. Autumn Rising Acoustic will be playing music from 5 to 8 p.m.

The family said that school and sports were a major focus in Devon’s life and that after his passing they heard many stories of how he impacted his community. That’s what led them to start Thee Devon Pfirsching Scholarship.

Devon’s family has given out scholarships to two chosen students for three years thanks to the annual support of the community. The overall goal of the scholarship is to keep the scholarship going in years to come as a way to remember and honor Devon.
