(Motor Authority) – It’s time to move on for much of rock ‘n’ roller Tom Petty ‘s personal collection, including his 1965 Ford Mustang . The Rangoon Red convertible will be auctioned off on Friday during Monterey Car Week along with a variety of his personal items.

Petty died in October of 2017 at the age of 66.

According to the auction listing, Petty owned the Mustang for nearly 20 years. The listing says the car is in good working order and has plenty of desirable options, though it didn’t list what those options are. However, we can see that the car has a red and white interior, badges for a 289-cubic-inch V-8 , and a 3-speed automatic transmission. That V-8 likely made 200 or 225 hp from the factory, though a K-code version made 271 hp.

According to “The Standard Catalog of American Cars, 1946-1975,” a total of 73,112 1965 Mustang convertibles were built, though that’s likely over 100,000 when you count the 1964.5 models, which are usually considered part of the 1965 model year.

Petty’s Mustang will be auctioned off on Friday in the great wide open of the Bonham’s Quail Auction where prospective buyers will be running down the dream of owning it. Bonham’s estimates a sale price of $25,000-$35,000, which doesn’t represent much of a premium over a Mustang convertible in this type of excellent shape. We’d expect even more from a man who gifted the world with hits such as “Refugee,” “Mary Jane’s Last Dance,” “Learning to Fly,” “American Girl,” and “Free Fallin’.”
