(WTAJ) — Over $7.3 million is going to five counties in Central Pennsylvania to help with transportation improvements.

Governor Josh Shapiro announced that state funding has been awarded to Pennsylvania counties for road, bridge and other transportation upgrades. In total, $7,332,519 was awarded to five counties in our area.

    Here are the transportation projects:

    Cambria County

    • West Carroll Township – $348,275 for the replacement of the Reed Street Bridge.
    • Lower Yoder Township – $1 million for the replacement of the closed Tremont Bridge.
    • Middle Taylor Township – $100,000 for paving a portion of Waterfall Road.
    • Portage Borough – $258,300 for sidewalk improvements, including decorative LED lighting along the east and west sides of Main Street, creating safe travel for pedestrians.
    • Richland School District – $1.7 million for vehicular and pedestrian improvements at Richland Elementary School.

    Centre County

    • Rush Township – $78,000 for stormwater management and roadway improvements on Medical Center Drive.

    Clearfield County

    • Beccaria Township – $239,158 for roadway widening, base and drainage repairs, milling, binding and wearing course, double seal coat and shoulder improvements on Hoop Up Road and Poplar Street.

    Bedford County

    • Southampton Township – $2,134,015 for the complete rehabilitation of Flintstone Creek Road.

    Jefferson County

    • Bell Township – $924,000 for drainage and surface improvements along with widening on Big Run Road.
    • Ringgold Township – $550,771 for replacing a culvert carrying Sandy Hill Road over Cherry Run.

“Maintaining a safe, efficient transportation network is a key component of thriving communities, but it is very expensive. I am pleased to announce this funding to help local governments in our area pay for these improvements,” Senator Wayne Langerholc, Jr. said.

It’s part of $51 million in funding from the Multimodal Transportation Fund to support 66 crucial transportation projects across 32 counties in Pennsylvania.

“Infrastructure is critical to our Commonwealth’s progress, and our ability to complete major projects is key to spurring economic growth and creating real opportunity,” Governor Shapiro said. “Investing in and improving our infrastructure is a commonsense way to spur economic development, create jobs, and help Pennsylvanians reach their destinations safely and efficiently. These improvements will help our communities grow as we continue working together to move Pennsylvania forward.”
