HOLLIDAYSBURG, Pa. (WTAJ) — The Blair County Conservation District is encouraging students to ‘go green’ for this back-to-school season.

The district recommends packing waste-free lunches with reusable containers, water bottles, and utensils.

You can also reduce paper waste by using digital notebooks and textbooks.

“You know, these are lifelong lessons that we’re learning. I can say when my son was in school, I didn’t know all of these different conservation techniques that I should be using. As time goes by, I keep incorporating one or two more sustainable actions as I go. I think if we can all work together and get there in the future, you know, it’s a good, good way towards progress,” Lisa Haas, Education Specialist at the Blair County Conservation District said.

If you live nearby to your school, you can consider walking or carpooling to reduce emissions.

“If you’re child learns these lessons early in life and teaches them to their friends and lets them see how cool their own water bottle is with the stickers that they’ve chosen and gone and collected. You know, it would spread throughout the community and it would lead to a much better future for all of us,” Haas said.
