ALTOONA, Pa. (WTAJ) — The Altoona Area Public Library is asking you to lend a helping hand.

The library is collecting donations of canned goods and single-serve non-perishable food items for Catholic Charities of the Diocese of Altoona-Johnstown .

The Executive Director of the library said she became aware of a significant need in their grab and go pantry, which sparked the idea for the food drive.

“I think that overall, our philosophy here at the library is if you can help, you should. We’re sort of using our facility and our hours open for people to make those donations,” Jennifer Knisely said.

Here are some of the items that are needed for the food drive:

    • Canned goods (tuna)
    • Granola Bars
    • Single-serve packages of crackers
    • Cup-O-Soup
    • Peanut Butter
    • Chef Boyardee with pull tabs

With the amount of food that they have on hand right now, Catholic Charities could run out of food by the end of September.
