JOHNSTOWN, Pa. (WTAJ) — Nearly two months after human remains were found at a residence in Johnstown, Cambria Coroner Jeff Lees announced that the body has been identified.

During a press conference held on Wednesday, Aug. 21, Lees said that Gregory Rohn, 36, was positively identified as the remans found in a residence on Adams Street. Rohn’s body was found on June 29, when police were called to do a welfare check.

Police originally reported flies on the inside of a window and a foul odor coming from inside the home. Once inside, police found Rohn stuffed into a crawl space on the third floor. Rohn was wrapped in a tarp and was “very well hidden,” according to Lees.

Rohn, who went missing in Dec. 2023, was identified through dental records. The case was a suspected overdose, due to the fact that a completed forensic autopsy did not reveal any signs of trauma. However, a toxicology report could not confirm any specific levels of fentanyl, even though Rohn had tested positive.

The death is now ruled “undetermined,” according to Lees. The investigation is currently still ongoing.

“The death is still being classified as highly suspicious,” Lees said. “He didn’t wrap himself in the tarp.”

The coroner’s office and law enforcement are currently working together to identify what type of case they are working with, according to District Attorney Greg Neugebauer. Currently, in the investigation, Neugebauer said that it could be as simple as as an abuse of corpse or more complex and serious.
