Sportsbeat Preview: Bellefonte Red Raiders

HOLLIDAYSBURG (WTAJ) — High school football returns Friday night and for Bellefonte football it’s game one of the early season grind as the Red Raiders hope to carry momentum from last fall’s late-season wins.

“We got that first win NFL great. So we just kept playing, kept playing. We got to next week. got that win. It felt great,” Senior Defensive back Aden Howell said. “We’re just ready to fight back this year.”

Bellefonte began the year 0-8 before wrapping up the regular season with two wins. The Red Raiders finished the year 2-9.

Second-year head coach Tony Confer doesn’t bring back a ton of experience, but likes what he has, and likes the experience they picked up. He hopes that through the team’s challenges, there was growth.

“You know we had a lot of ups and downs and adversity last year that we dealt with,” Confer said. “And I think the young players coming back this year, showed a lot of, resilience and working through some of those things. And I think that’s going to pay dividends this year for them.”

Bellefonte opens the season at Central, and play tough road games at Clearfield and at Bishop Guilfoyle in three of the first four games.
