PENNSYLVANIA (WTAJ) — The Pennsylvania Treasury is reminding Commonwealth residents to check for unclaimed properties.

Unclaimed properties can come from old bank accounts, uncashed checks or forgotten safe deposits, according to the Treasury. One-in-ten Pennsylvanians have unclaimed property, with the average claim being about $1,600.

Looking to check if you have any unclaimed properties? Residents can search the Treasury Vault for property belonging to themselves, family members or the organizations they are apart of.

“Treasury receives hundreds of millions of dollars in unclaimed property every year, often because of something as simple as a misspelled name or an out-of-date address,” Stacy Garrity, State Treasurer, said. “But let’s be clear: this is your money we’re talking about, and I want to return it to you.”

If you have unclaimed property, the Treasury will provide you with claim forms to file. Additional information, such as social security and the owner’s name or legal representative of the owner, may be needed to process the claim.
