EBENSBURG, Pa. (WTAJ) — Senior year is usually a time to celebrate because graduation is right around the corner. However, it’s also a time to reminisce on your academic journey and growth.

Students at Bishop Carroll Catholic High School are starting their senior year on a creative note. They painted their parking spots with personal messages and designs before the first day of school.

“My parking spot is Spotify-inspired. I’m really into music and I love like all the creative sparks that music brings. So I painted it like a Spotify playlist. I did a 2021 starting, which was like my freshman year, and then I ended about 2025,” Maya Sirsikar, a Senior at the school said.

Some seniors started painting this week. A couple of students we spoke to said they wanted to get parking spaces next to each other.

“It’s definitely fun to be parking next to each other. We’ve been sitting together in the same classroom since kindergarten, so to be parking together for our final year together, it’s just. It’s really a full circle moment,” Greta Krumenacker, another senior said.

Greta’s friend Maddie Lieb, made her spot inspirational with the words, ‘Make it a good day’.

“I wanted something like positive, colorful in my spot just to point to every day and just, you know, be positive and have a good senior year,” Lieb said.

The Dean of Students for Bishop Carroll said that the idea of painting the spots is fairly new. Students do have to pay for their parking spots and request it in advance.

“Last year, our seniors came to me and said, can we paint our parking spots? They saw that some schools around the area were doing that. And I said, “Sure.” So last year they started and this year they really upped their game. They’ve done a fantastic job and add some fun to the school year. It makes them something to look forward to and they take ownership of their spots,” Jonathan Nagy said.

This year is bittersweet for some of the seniors like Caroline Golden. However, she’s confident that her parking spot will get her through the year.

“It’s very bright and colorful and I really like just seeing it every day. So I just picked something that would maybe make other people smile, too. And I almost think it’s too nice to park on, but I really like seeing it and makes me happy,” Golden said.

After these seniors graduate, their spots will remain painted unless another senior decides to take over the spot and re-paint it.

“It’s great seeing these kids from when they’ve been young to senior year. You get a personal attachment to each of them. I couldn’t be more proud of our seniors and all of our students here at Bishop Carroll,” Nagy said.
