HARRISBURG, Pa. (WTAJ) — More than $209,000 in penalties were levied against Pennsylvania utility companies including People’s Natural Gas.

The Pennsylvania Public Utility Commission (PUC) and their Damage Prevention Committee (DPC) levied penalties on 168 underground facility owners and operators across the state, including People’s Natural Gas for water pipe damage in Altoona.

Penalties range from a few hundred dollars to a few thousand dollars. Most of which come from negligence by workers who hit and broke utility lines. For example: People’s Natural Gas was penalized when a third-party contractor broke a water pipe leading to a home while trying to work on gas lines in the area.
