Man arrested in Altoona, caught with over 800 grams of cocaine

ALTOONA, Pa. (WTAJ) — A Colorado man is facing charges after he was arrested and allegedly had over 800 grams of cocaine on him, according to the Altoona Police Department .

On Sept. 3 at 12:45 p.m., officers were called to the 700 block of 6th Avenue for a welfare check on a man lying on the sidewalk. Police arrived on scene and found Benny Castillo of Aurora, CO. Police added that Castillo was allegedly under the influence when they arrived.

During a search of his things, police said they found a large package “consistent with that of narcotics.” Police opened it and reported that it was full of white powder.

It weighed approximately 898 grams and tested positive for cocaine, according to the APD.

Castillo was taken to the Blair County Prison and is being held on $75,000 bail. He is facing a felony charge of possession with the intent to deliver and misdemeanor charges of possession of a controlled substance and drug paraphernalia and a summary charge for public intoxication.

He has a preliminary hearing scheduled for Sept. 11.
