DA: Cresson man arrested, caught with over $10k worth of marijuana

CAMBRIA COUNTY, Pa. (WTAJ) — A Cresson man is facing charges after he was arrested for allegedly possessing $12k worth of marijuana.

John Risban, 48, is facing charges after police executed two search warrants on a residence on the 700 block of Powell Avenue in Cresson Borough, according to Cambria County District Attorney Greg Neugebauer. On Wednesday, Sept. 4 officers from the Cambria County Drug Task Force, Cambria County SERT, PA Office of Attorney General, Cambria County Detective Bureau, Cresson Borough Police, Cresson Township Police, Gallitzin Boro Police, Pennsylvania State Police, FBI Safe Streets Task Force executed the warrants.

The warrants were allegedly obtained after an investigation was done into multiple tips that had come through the Cambria County Drug Tip Line.

During the search, officers found the following items:

• Items of suspected drug paraphernalia including marijuana growing equipment
• Two rifles
• Approximately 100 grams of suspected processed marijuana (Valued at approximately $1,500)
• Suspected mature marijuana plants (Valued at approximately $10,500)

As a result of the searchn Risban was arrested and is currently in the Cambria County Prison with bail set at 10% of $200,000. He’s facing felony charges of possessing a firearm as a prohibited person, manufacturing a controlled substance, possession with the intent to deliver a controlled substance and misdemeanor charges of possession of a controlled substance and possession of drug paraphernalia.

This case shows the value of information from the public, and that law enforcement takes tips very seriously. Multiple citizens reported suspected drug activity, which started an investigation which included surveillance, witness interviews, and multiple search warrants. Law enforcement thanks those citizens, and reminds our community that if you see something, say something. Risban has a preliminary hearing scheduled for Sept. 17.
