CENTRE COUNTY, Pa. (WTAJ) — The 50th annual Nittany Antique Machinery Association fall show has kicked off in Centre County and many are looking back at how it’s changed over the years while it continues to grow moving into the future.

Nittany Antique Machinery Association was formed in 1975 when Dick Markle and Russell Mark, both avid antique equipment collectors and show attendees, decided that Central Pennsylvania had enough interest and equipment to organize a club and hold a show of its own.

The first show was held at Penns Cave Farm in September 1975 and now Dick’s son is still a current member of the association.

Over $15M awarded to State College for road safety project

With the success of the first show, it was decided to hold a show annually on the first weekend after Labor Day. In addition to the fall show, a spring “gas-up” is now held with a consignment sale the Saturday following Memorial Day.

You won’t see many of the items at the show on a farm today.

“Gives people an idea of what they have to do to produce a loaf of bread back in the day,” Bill Markle a Chartered Member of the Association said.

The show is filled with live demonstrations of cider pressing, a sawmill and more. The activities are showcasing the history and bringing many to the area.

“People come from all over. We get a lot of people from Centre County that are exhibitors here. We get people depending on what we’re featuring clear Ohio and New York and so forth,” Chartered Member Larry Harpster said.
