PITTSBURGH (WTAJ) — The Steelers shored up some lingering contract issues this week ahead of the team’s season opener in Atlanta.

After extending Cam Heyward through 2026 on Tuesday, signing him to a three deal worth $45 million, the Steelers finalize a deal with 26-year-old tight end Pat Freiermuth Friday.

Pittsburgh signed him to a 4-year, $48.4 million contract extension, putting him under contract through 2028. The former Penn State star was a 2021 second round draft pick, and has caught 155 passes for 1,537 yards in three seasons.

Freiermuth is coming off his worst season in the NFL. Last year he played in just 12 games and posted a career low in yards and receptions

Pittsburgh opens the season Sunday in Atlanta against the Falcons.
