CAMBRIA COUNTY, Pa. (WTAJ) — One juvenile is in custody after an alleged shooting threat at Conemaugh Valley High School, according to Cambria County District Attorney Greg Neugebauer.

Police were called to the school district after a teacher allegedly received concerning information from a student regarding the alleged possible shooting. The building was evacuated and police on scene searched the building however nothing was found, Neugebauer said.

The building was then re-opened and students were released back to classes, as police believed there to be no further disruption.

At the time, two juveniles were questioned about the incident, however, only one was taken into custody, according to Neugebauer. Currently, under Pennsylvania Law, no other information on the juvenile taken into custody is available due to their age.

“This is a reminder that any threat will be taken seriously and prosecuted. Students need to realize that making any type of threat can have long-term implications which may include having a record that follows you into adulthood,” Neugebauer said.

Superintendent Shane Hazenstab said that faculty and students practice for events like these every year and that timeliness and communication are key.

“Safety is always the top priority. Anytime that we have a safety issue come up. Everything else becomes secondary and we focus on what the threat to safety is,” Hazenstab said.

The district added that they communicated twice with parents, once when they were made aware of the possible threat and then again when police confirmed that there was no threat.

“From student to adult, to staff, to administration, law enforcement, security consultant, all the communication lines were strong,” Hazenstab added.

He added that this coming week the district will continue their investigation and review their protocols for anything that could be improved upon.
