Ridgway Area SD closed Friday after alleged shooting threat

ELK COUNTY, Pa. (WTAJ) — The Ridgway Area School District has announced that they’ll be closed Friday after an old video of an alleged threat was seen circulating on social media.

The school district announced that a TikTok from May of 2022 was seen by a parent and it allegedly made references to school threats and included a scrolling list of school names from across the U.S. Among the schools on the list was the Ridgway High School. That parent contacted an RBP officer who then contacted the superintendent.

Then at 8:39 p.m., the district received a Safe 2 Say tip that stated, “There is a list circulating on the internet and through text messages saying there will be a school shooting tomorrow.”

Due to the increased risk to safety for both students and staff, the school district will be closed on Friday, Sept. 13. All after-school activities, events, and practices will be cancelled.

“Additional information will be provided when such information becomes available following a District and Law Enforcement Investigation. The make up date will be announced at a later time,” The Ridgway Area School District said in a post.
