    Slow-moving superload to travel through Jefferson County

    JEFFERSON COUNTY, Pa. (WTAJ) —The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) has announced that a slow-moving superload will be making its way through Central Pennsylvania, including Jefferson County.

    The superload is being transported from Columbiana, OH to Allegheny County, PA starting Sept. 17. It is expected to travel through portions of Mercer, Venango, Butler, Clarion, Indiana, Jefferson, Westmoreland and Allegheny counties.

    The superload is 136 feet long, nearly 28 feet wide, and weighs 150 tons. The load will travel on Interstate 80 Eastbound through Mercer, Venango, Butler, and Clarion Counties to Exit 78 in Jefferson County. It will continue through Jefferson County on Routes 36 South, 436 South, and 119 South into Indiana County where it will take Route 22 West through Westmoreland County and into Allegheny County.

    Once in Allegheny County, it will travel Routes 2048 South/William Penn Highway West, 48 South, 130 West and 2037/Tri-Boro Expressway West, onto Route 2083/Braddock Avenue South.

    The superload will be using two traffic lanes which will result in traffic stoppages and travel delays. Drivers are reminded that they must be alert as the superload will be traveling approximately 25-30 miles per hour, or slower as needed. Drivers should also use alternate routes when possible.

    Southern Pines Trucking, Inc. of Aliquippa, PA will be transporting the load.
