BELLEFONTE, Pa. (WTAJ) — A 64-year-old Bellefonte man is facing multiple charges, including aggravated assault and terroristic threats, after allegedly pointing a gun at a family member and threatening violence, according to the criminal complaint.

Edward Earl Wetzel was arrested Sept. 15 after Spring Township police were called to a residence on Forge Road. Wetzel allegedly pointed a .44 magnum pistol at a family member’s stomach and head, stating he could “smoke her.” According to the affidavit, the incident escalated into a physical altercation involving Wetzel’s wife and other family members, one of whom was choked.

Wetzel is charged with felony counts of aggravated assault and terroristic threats, as well as misdemeanor simple assault. He was denied bail due to concerns for public safety and remains in custody at the Centre County Prison. A preliminary hearing is scheduled for Sept. 25.
