ALTOONA, Pa. (WTAJ) — Stuckey Subaru surprised students at Penn-Lincoln Elementary School with a donation and school supplies in part with their Subaru Loves Learning Initiative.

“It’s just a great opportunity for us to get into the schools and help support the mission that they’re doing to help educate the next generation,” Matt Stuckey, president of Stuckey Subaru in Hollidaysburg said.

During an assembly early Wednesday morning, the dealership talked with students about how important education was to becoming an adult in their community. They announced a check worth $12,500 would be given to the school for any use, along with boxes full of supplies, such as dry erase boards, markers and highlighters.

School board president says there are more options than proposed renovation project

“One, it takes the burden off teachers feeling like they need to add their supplies,” Jeffrey Guyer, principal at Penn-Lincoln Elementary said. “Two, it’s going to enable our staff to do incredible things, incredibly engaging activities and very, very exciting things for our students.”

Nationwide, 92% of classrooms in high-need schools have students that cannot afford materials for school. This initiative aims to bridge the gap to give students the necessary tools to succeed in the classroom.

“Hopefully we’re encouraging the kids to stay in school, keep learning, keep doing the things and figure out what makes them tick and become great adults,” Stuckey added.

Not only were the check and supply boxes given to the staff, but the dealership is hosting a pizza party for the entire school on Thursday.

“It becomes emotional because you have partners in the community,” Guyer said. “They’re looking out for us and for all the students in our district. You see the kids light up with the excitement of the potential of what all those things mean.”

This marks the second year that Stuckey Subaru and Penn-Lincoln Elementary have partnered to bring supplies to the school. Last year, the dealership did an art project with the students as part of their initiative.

“I would love for them to reach out to us,” Guyer added. “I can’t thank them enough for what they’ve done already done for our building and our district. I certainly would welcome this partnership for as long as they’re willing to keep it happening.”
