EBENSBURG, Pa. (WTAJ) — CamTram is helping out senior citizens on Election Day to get to the polls.

The Cambria County Area Agency on Aging and the Transit Authority are partnering up to provide seniors with free rides to polling places. Those 60 years or older with a valid transit ID card and proof of age are able to sign up at their local senior centers, as long as they are registered with the Cambria County Elections Office.

The following senior centers are eligible for free transportation:

    • Cresson
    • Ebensburg
    • Forest Hills
    • Jackson Twp. (seniors 65+ only)
    • Nanty Glo
    • Patton
    • Portage
    • Northern Cambria

“All they need to do is get to a bus station, wherever that’s at, and the busses will get them to the polling booths,” Keith Rager, one of three Cambria County Commissioners said.

Mail-in and absentee ballots are still options for seniors. However, the commissioners found that they like to vote the old-fashioned way.

“The older voters want to vote in person,” Rager added. “So what they do is they try to get to the polls. However, they can’t find a friend or relative. And when that doesn’t work, I feel as a county, we need to step in and help.”

Signups continue on until Oct. 31, and the transit authority recommends to reserve your spot early. For more information, call CamTram customer service at 814-471-6601 or toll-free at 1-800-252-3889.

They should give free rides to everyone, all the time. I am Sorry they already do….another government boondoggle keeping the people who operate it rich 🤑 They should have to ride their jail wagons all the time, instead of their luxury cars.
