TYRONE, Pa. (WTAJ) — The Central Pennsylvania Food Bank held a launch party Friday for the opening of the new Hollidaysburg Healthy Hub.

The new hub will provide highly nutritious foods to those that need it most in the region and is expected to provide 28 million meals in only three years.

Those with the food bank said it couldn’t come at a better time.

“We’re actually in a hunger crisis, not only here in Pennsylvania but around the county,” said Joe Arthur, CEO of the Central Pennsylvania Food Bank. “So we know that in order to serve the amount of people that really need help and serve the really good, nutritious food, we absolutely have to have a presence here that we own.”

Groups attend Blair County summit, discuss emergency preparedness

Some of the food that will be served out of the hub will be sourced from local farms.

“This is a really big area, and we know there’s more food here. Everything from fresh vegetables and fruits to all the wonderful protein products, dairy, you name it. We can do much more by having a facility here,” Arthur said.

Many already existing outreach programs that have been serving the community welcome the additional resources and support the new food bank will bring.

“We are certainly looking forward to the relationship that we’re going to have with them. It’s definitely going to be mutually beneficial. And just the work that we’re doing between the two of us, it’s so important right now. And the need is, is stronger now than it’s ever been,” said Chris Fuska, Director and Pastor of American Rescue Workers.
