HUNTINGDON, Pa. (WTAJ) – The Huntingdon County courthouse is seeing a $4 million upgrade to its second floor, including a new roof and electric system.

The courthouse was built in the 1800’s, so time has taken its toll on the building.

“The roof had been leaking for years,” Project Supervisor Dave King said.

County commissioners say they have been wanting to fix up the place for years, but the budget was a big concern. However, after years of saving, they were finally able to jump on the opportunity.

“Thankfully, the county had enough funds that were saved up from previous years,” Commissioner Patrick Reeder said.

King says that lifting the sagging roof has been the “biggest challenge” so far, but ultimately rewarding. Hidden behind the roof and paneling was some original stained glass that can now be displayed for everyone to see.

“We’re glad to be able to restore this to its original grandeur,” Commissioner Scott Walls said.

The project is expected to be done by April 2025.
