PA residents, businesses to deliver supplies to hurricane victims

(WTAJ) — As affected communities of Hurricane Helene continue their clean-up, community members in Central Pennsylvania are taking action.

One local community organization has set up a relief drive at the East Freedom Bestway Pizza. They are collecting basic necessities such as water, non-perishable food, toiletries and baby supplies Thursday from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m.

Relief drive organizer Billy White started it by sharing his idea of a collection drive on social media. He was familiar with North Carolina and wanted to help as much as possible.

“I mean, the state of Tennessee, I believe they have posted on their government page. They’re not asking for donations yet. They don’t want you to bring supplies down unless asked for by federal or state governments. You know, I was inspired because I’m seeing guys using private helicopters to airdrop supplies in, and that’s what I was shooting for,” White said.

They are expected to have enough donations to take three trailers to North Carolina on Friday evening. Kauffman Metals in Bedford is also hauling a donations trailer to Tennessee on Friday.

Some of what the business is requesting are flashlights, batteries, drinks, non-perishable food, hygiene and medical supplies, and blankets. If you want to donate, you can take your items to the trailer located outside of the Kauffman Metals showroom by Friday at noon.
